Everywhere you turn to these days, talks and discussions surrounding web3, Bitcoin, blockchain, NFTs and smart contracts cannot be far-fetched, it's safe to say that there is a new kid on the block. I will be picking one of these terms to discuss and that's web3.
Web3 isn't the short form of the worldwide web, just as one of my friends thinks. But before I define what web3 is I'd like to give you a refresher on web2.
Web2
Web2 is that version of the internet we are all familiar with, the blog you're reading from is currently on web2. In simple and clear terms, web2 is a form of internet in which data and activities are controlled by centralized servers, this implies users have to rely on some services that provide them services for their data to be stored on their servers.
What is web3 Anyways?
The new kid
Web3 on the other hand is that form of the internet where the user's data are decentralized this means the data isn't controlled or owned by a group of people or a single user. You can see it as a democratic version of the web " the Web by the people, for the people, and to the people". So it's safe to say, web3 is the future and a more intelligent, autonomous, and open version of the Internet.
Different between web3 and Web2
Here are some of the features that make these forms of the internet different from each other
Web3 gives users the ability to connect, transact and share data privately and without relying on a third party. With Web2, every time you interact with the internet, copies of your data get sent to the data servers, and you no longer own it exclusively.
In web3 smart contracts on the decentralized network are being interacted through ABI(Application Binary Interface) interfaces that are made available, while in web3 API(Application Programming Interface) are used to communicate with the backend server.
There are a whole lot of other differences and you can find them on the internet in case you want to dig deeper.
I am still very much new to Web3, in order to make sure I get a better understanding of this new technology and start providing solutions in this space. I am currently enrolled in an internship where I will get the basic knowledge that will allow me to hit the ground running thanks to Blockgames, Nestcoin, and The Zuriteam for giving me this opportunity.
